“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” ~Maya Angelou

Live Workshop/Los Angeles, Writing Your Memories with Patrick O'Neil

When: Sunday, March 10, 11:30 am to 1:00 pm

Where: Antioch University Los Angeles campus (400 Corporate Pointe, Culver City, CA 90230)

Hurry--This live workshop is FREE!

Limited to twelve participants.

In this Creative Nonfiction workshop students will begin by reading, discussing, and examining selected excerpts of personal narrative and memoir, that deal with “scenes” running the gamut from awkward to frightening. The readings will be selected to demonstrate methods that the authors use to deal with some of their most difficult memories to capture, and sometimes uncomfortable or ludicrous memories. By discussing solid craft and techniques students will be encouraged to examine the “scenes” that they are writhing in their own nonfiction and memoir. There will be in-class exercises that address apprehension and anxiety over writing certain memories and personal stories. Students will have the chance to discuss, explore, and examine their writing and “characters” and address issues such as voice, audience, story, dialog, description, memory, truth, and ethical considerations specific to the genre and relevant to all writing styles.
